The illegal promise by a candidate to “promise dir ectly or indirectly to name or appoint any person or persons to any place, position, or offi ce in consideration of any person or persons supporting the candidate or using the person's influence in securing the candidate's nomination, election, or appointment.” Iowa Code §49.120.
