A primary that is part-way between open and closed. A voter that is registered with a party can only vote in that party’s primary. A voter that is unaffiliated can vote in any single party’s primary by effectively becoming a member of that party for one day. Such primaries are held in California, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Ohio, Rhode Island and Utah. Also SLIGHTLY AJAR PRIMARY. Cf. CLOSED PRIMARY, OPEN PRIMARY.
