Measurable physical characteristics or personal behavioral traits used to identify, or verify the claimed identity, of an individual. Facial images, fingerprints, and handwriting samples are all examples of biometrics. (CNSSI-4009) (NISTIR)

The use of a human body part or measurement thereof for identification. Under the 2007 VVSG, biometric identifiers are permitted but any voti ng system which accepts a biometric must also accept some other form of identification which does not rely on the same characteristics.
