Definition

“Communication through some means other than the primary channel under discussion. If the primary communication channel is the Internet, then out-of-band channel might be via U. S. mail, or a voice telephone connection, or any other channel that does not involve the Internet.” The concept is important because compromise of a communication channel does not expose out of band messages.
