Independent Candidate

Definition

1. A “person who is running for nomination or election to a public office but who does not represent a political party.” Wyo. Stat. §22-1-102(a)(xvi). A “ candidate in a nonpartisan election or a candidate in a partisan election who is not the nominee of a political party.” Texas Elec. Code §1.005(9). 2. Confusingly, there is a party known as the Independent Party, so a candidate of that party would be referred to as an “Independent candidate.”
