Definition

A special form of encryption in which the sum of two numbers can be determined even though the numbers are encrypted, and without decr ypting the numbers. Homomorphic encryption can be used in verification schemes since the voter can reveal her encrypted vote for each candidate without revealing the vote itself, and the sum of the votes can be calculated without knowing the individual vote of any voter.
